China earthquake death toll rises to 65080.

  BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from China's May 12 earthquake rose by 4,520 to reach 65,080 as of Monday noon, according to the Information Office of the State Council.

    The casualty figures included 360,058 injured and 23,150 missing in the 8.0-magnitude quake that was centered on the southwestern Sichuan Province.

    About 14.38 million people have been relocated from quake-affected areas, according to the office.   click here to read more.

Dear Members of the Committee:

As lieutenant governor, I am proud to accept a role as honorary chair of the China Earthquake Relief Committee of Rhode Island. As both an elected official and as a private citizen, I have found it incredibly heart-wrenching and difficult to watch the news of China’s devastating earthquake unfold in the media and learn about the widespread devastation that has taken the lives of tens of thousands and impacted the lives of many thousands more. This fund can help families rebuild their lives.  It is my hope that the China Earthquake Relief Committee of Rhode Island will also be able to support the hard work of first responders and disaster volunteers, as well as medical professionals and relief agencies, who are working tirelessly to rebuild the lives of the Chinese impacted by the earthquake.

May 24^th . The fundraising luncheon  organized by XingXing Chinese School was a big success. More than eighty people attended the event and donated a total of $6165.50,  a good portion of which was from the kids’ savings of their pocket money. Thanks to the kids and parents. A group of 8 students from URI attended and volunteered to help with serving. Some of them just got here not long ago and don't even have a vehicle. They car-pooled all the way  from URI to Pawtucket to show their support. Thanks to them all. 

May 25^th,   Friends attending the Sunday service at the Chinese Christian Church of Rhode Island poured their help to the earthquake victims. They contributed more than $30,000 in total. We are grateful for their monetary contribution as well as the assistance they offered in mass mailing, placement of donation boxes and computer technical support etc. Many thanks!

May 25^th.  We received a check of $40,000 from the matching fund source.

五月二十四日星星中文学校举办的午餐筹款会共筹得善款$6165.50. 学生和家长们纷纷慷慨解囊。 许多小朋友拿出了平时攒的零花钱， 让我们从一点一滴上看到他们的爱心。 谢谢中文学校，谢谢小朋友和家长们。另有八位罗德岛大学的中国同学来参加午餐会并协助招待。他们中有人刚来美不久还没有自己的车。但他们搭上同学的车从学校大老远赶来表示支持。 感谢所有的同学。

五月二十五日，华人基督教会的教友们为赈灾奉献出三万多元善款。 近日有多位朋友参与邮寄准备工作，帮助在餐馆放置捐款箱，还提供电脑技术的援助等等。 在此一并表示感谢。
